Resources for Families in Nunavut
Previously known as the Baby Box Program, the Department of Health has implemented the Newborn Wellness Program. Expectant parents or caregivers can receive a Newborn Wellness Kit during prenatal or well-child appointments at their local health centre.
Healing by Talking Program offers free virtual, long-term counselling services to Inuit across the territory. Visit your local Health Centre for more information, or email healing@gov.nu.ca, or call 1-888-648-0070 or 867-975-5367.
This booklet contains breastfeeding stories written by Nunavut Mothers. The stories share individual experiences from new mothers through to Elders. The stories were collected through a Baffin Breastfeeding Story Writing Contest in 2003.
There are five Family Violence Shelters for people who are fleeing abuse and family violence. If there is no shelter near you, your Community Social Services Worker or Community Justice Outreach Worker will accompany you to the nearest place of safety.
Each Wednesday, One Plane Away shares tips about infant and maternal wellness. From nutrition to safe sleep and more, looks through some of our Wellness Wednesday posts for more information.
