Bassinet Program coming soon to the Kivalliq Region

One Plane Away is pleased to have been selected by the Government of Nunavut, Department of Health, to coordinate the Bassinet Program for the Kivalliq region. As an organization that has been in operation in Nunavut since 2015 with a mandate to support Inuit moms and their babies, we are excited to be part of this important work. Our goal in this initiative is to ensure that every newborn in the Kivallliq Region has access to a bassinet to help protect their overall well-being and safety.

The primary goal of the Bassinet Program is to provide a secure and comfortable sleep environment for every baby in Nunavut in accordance with Canada’s Safe Sleep Guidelines. A safe sleep environment will help in reducing the number of SIDS cases, which is higher in the Nunavut region than any other region in Canada.

The program is already underway in both the Kitikmeot and Qikiqtaaluk Regions and we look forward to collaborating with the Arctic Children and Youth Foundation and Kitikmeot Friendship Society on this important initiative.
