Victoria Madsen has lived in Iqaluit, Nunavut for 12 years. Victoria first came with her husband and children from Hamilton, Ontario for a ‘1 year work transfer’ but fell in love with Nunavut and stayed. Victoria works as the Assistant Deputy Minister of Health for the Government of Nunavut, overseeing Mental Health and Addictions as well as Suicide Prevention. Victoria reports that volunteering at One Plane Away is the perfect stress reliever for a pretty stressful job!
Victoria started volunteering with One Plane Away when it started growing bigger than her daughter Caris (Founder) could handle. Between packing baby clothes, Victoria and Caris would sew aprons and sell them at the Iqaluit Christmas Craft Show to raise funds to support One Plane Away throughout the year. Victoria feels it is amazing to see how far One Plane Away has developed and is excited to help many more Nunavut mothers through the distribution of baby care boxes and mother’s sewing programs.
